HSK Exam Prep

China's Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, known as the "HSK" or the Chinese Language Proficiency Test, is a standardized test developed by the HSK Test Center at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). The HSK test is meant to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers (foreigners, overseas Chinese and China's ethnic minorities). It aims to assess examinees' ability to understand spoken and written Chinese. HSK certification is a widely recognized measure of one's Chinese language proficiency level and can be used in university admissions and job applications..

AP Chinese Test Prep

The AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam is a computer-based test (monitor, keyboard, headphones, and microphone) that is about 2 hours and 15 minutes long. The test is designed to test listening, reading, writing, and speaking (each of the four making up 25% of the test) testing interpretation and communication skills in Mandarin and also testing knowledge of Chinese culture. The test is divided as follows.

  • Multiple Choice Questions (70 Questions. Approximately 1.5 hours)
  • Free Response (45 minutes)
  • Part 1 (Writing. 30 minutes)
  • Part 1 (Writing. 30 minutes)

SAT II Chinese Test Prep

The Chinese SAT II Test is also called "Chinese with Listening Subject Test." You knowledge will be evaluated on spoken and written Mandarin Chinese as well as modern-day Chinese Culture. The 1-hour test makes up 200-800 points. Format is 85 multiple choice questions divided as follows:

  • Listening & Comprehension (20 minutes)
  • Usage and Reading (40 minutes)
  • USES: Requires grammatically correct completion of questions. You will have four options in which format you prefer to see questions and complete answers:
  • Traditional Characters
  • Simplified Characters
  • Phonetic transcriptions (Pinyin Romanization)
  • Chinese Phonetic Alphabet (Bopomofo)
  • READING: You will be tested on your comprehension of each reading passage (Main idea, supporting idea, setting, topic and theme.)
  • All questions are in English.)
  • All passages are in both traditional and simplified Chinese characters.

Preparation and Skills Needed:

  • Knowledge of spoken Mandarin Chinese: being able to interpret short conversation and narratives about common topics.
  • Constructing complete sentences using correct vocabulary, grammar, and context.
